Denise Owen makes art to celebrate the splendor she sees around her and to inspire others to delight in that richness. Some work is intuitive, some is from observation, some is both. Everything is abstracted.
A contemporary visual artist living and working in Oakland, CA, she was born in Johnstown, PA, earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Architecture, served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Ivory Coast, and is Professor Emeritus of Art and Interior Design at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA. She discovered her love of drawing while apprenticing in architecture and has continued to create works on paper for over 35 years.
