I’m Cathy Raingarden, a visual storyteller, urban sketcher, and illustrator from Berkeley, California.
My first degree was in fine arts, but it wasn’t until I went back to study for my landscape architecture degree, that I discovered urban sketching, where you draw from real life. I threw my art materials into my crossbody purse, grabbed a sketchbook, and headed out to draw the world.
I illustrate for the beautiful Edible East Bay epicurean magazine, and sketch local scenes for ‘The Valley’ lifestyle magazine in the Castro Valley News. I also teach urban sketching at Arch Art Supplies in San Francisco. You’ll usually find me underneath a beautiful tree in an urban setting, sketching the story that is unfolding around me.
We will meet at The Grand Gallery at 11am – Class is geared for all levels and is presented in easy bite sized lessons.
Arrive a few minutes earlier if you’d like to purchase a watercolor kit and pens. Wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. Bring water and snacks. We will be sketching around Jack London. Sign up for class by clicking on the link below.
